Mold growth can often be seen in the form of a discoloration or stain. Many colors are possible: white, orange, pink, blue. green, black or brown. When molds are present growing in large quanitites ( called colonies) they become a health concern.
Mold needs 3 things to grow: Moisture, Food Source and Oxygen. Mold prefers high humidity and moist surfaces and will continue to grow if you do not take care of the source.
Make sure if you had a pipe leak, flood or other water damage to inspect the area of concern to make sure mold is not present. Keep cardboard boxes off the cold damp floor in the basement because they will become wet creating a food source for the mold spores.
